Job Purpose and Objectives:

Responsible for developing and producing various types of content to contribute to the success of Midwest Public Risk (MPR) through brand awareness, expanded digital footprint and promotion of programs by attending various conferences and seminars. 

Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

 

  1. Provides innovative communication ideas and stays up to date on latest trends and best practices

  2. Creates a communication and marketing plan on an annual basis incorporating MPR’s goals and objectives, executing each initiative on at least a monthly basis

  3. Oversees MPR’s website content and appearance to ensure information is current, accurate, accessible and understandable

  4. Coordinates MPR newsletter to ensure content is relevant, timely and professional

  5. Provides communication support for all departments and advisory committees to create specific content while maintaining the overall intent of the message by learning and understanding strategies that connect with a target audience

  6. Manages and oversees social media which includes identifying and preparing appropriate posts and monitoring interactions by responding to feedback, inquires and comments

  7. Identifies key audiences, messages and strategies for effective delivery of outreach and education programs

  8. Reviews and edits communications and marketing materials for grammatical and editorial edits as well as ease of readability and understanding

  9. Coordinates the design and execution of brochures, marketing materials, fliers, advertisements, videos and any other promotional and/or educational materials for print and online distribution

  10. Serves as MPR’s primary media contact and spokesperson in conjunction with the President which can include speaking to the media, issuing press releases, coordinating press conferences and communication with Partners

  11. Coordinates and manages MPR events including planning, coordinating staff, scheduling speakers and vendors and creates and oversees any marketing materials related to the events

  12. Coordinates MPR’s member meetings, prepares advance and other timely communication to the Board of Directors, Member Representatives, MPR Staff and appropriate Partners, coordinates with MPR Facility Manager and other location contacts to ensure successful events

  13. Oversees and manages all aspects of the MPR Annual Members’ Meeting and Fall conference

  14. Identifies key audiences, messages and strategies to ensure effective delivery of communications

  15. Ensures member organizations and prospective members experience high value through meetings, events and other initiatives while working to ensure balance through the volume of communication

  16. Travel may be required, less than 10%

  17. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances

  18. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary

  19. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures

  20. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed

  21. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic

Position Requirements:

1.       Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

2.       Three years of experience in developing print and web-based communications and marketing materials

3.       Previous related experience within a public agency or nonprofit organization preferred

4.       One year of experience in conference planning preferred

 

Certifications / Licenses:

1.        None required

 

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

1.       Knowledge of new and innovative communication and marketing best practices and applying relevant trends to MPR’s communication strategy through a partnership with Departments and the President

2.       Understanding of all Microsoft Office products as well as Adobe Creative Suites and other common marketing production and design software such as Canva

3.       Strong attention to detail and proficiency of proper grammatical and punctuation usage

4.       Experience with artificial intelligence a plus, but not required

5.       Emphasizes team approach to providing a great membership (customer) experience

6.       Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work

7.       Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently

8.       Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
